MOUNT IJEN | CHASING BLUE FIRE & THE WORLDS MOST ACIDIC LAKE

MOUNT IJEN WOW! What an unbelievable place of pure natural beauty. This was the next part of our adventure: hiking the famous Mount Ijen. This did not disappoint! Even when me and Allanah were in England, we had so many people recommend this trip to us, so to finally go and live it was a dream come true. This really was one of the most beautiful sunrises I’ve ever seen in my life. It seriously rivals Mount Bromo. We had another early start for this one, and with us only arriving in Banyuwangi a few hours prior to our pick-up time, it was a tough hike. But nonetheless, totally worth it! As always, none of this is possible without the guides and the drivers. We never got our driver’s name, but we did get our guide’s: Kholik. What a man! An ex-Ijen miner who became a tour guide for Mount Ijen. He is an incredible inspiration, from working in the mine and doing twelve-hour days hiking out of the crater with 120 kilos of sulphur on his shoulder! He was such a legend and took amazing care of us at the volcano. His story is unbelievable, and we also got the pleasure of meeting his son, who is also a guide for Mount Ijen. This was again booked through Cheap Bromo. So, if you’re looking at doing these trips, I recommend Cheap Bromo so highly. They take such good care of you, and everything runs so smoothly.
