With only 6 days left on my visa for the Philippines, I had to find out if there were any ferries heading out of The Philippines, going towards Borneo. I had done no research at all, except seeing a ferry line on a couple of maps heading that way. There was nothing online to give me any schedules or timetables of ferries leaving from the only port that I thought they were leaving from, Zamboanga City.
I arrived here earlier then what I was expecting to be to ensure that there were ferries.
I left Dumaguete by ferry. There are a couple of ferries, and it looks like they change timings often. The ticket office is 10m minutes walk from the ferry port and I got myself the quickest ferry which left at 2 pm and took 4 hours.
The ferry took me to Dapitan, which is a small village, with no hotels. There a lots of taxis (tricycles) waiting for you to get off. The nearest city is Dipolog, which is a 20 minute ride. I was lucky that I shared a taxi with anther person which made it cheaper. I stayed the one night and then headed off early in the morning from the Main Bus Termal, and got the bus to Zamboanga. The bus is every 2 hours. It costs 755 Pesos. The bus will stop 3 times for toilet breaks! Take lots of snacks!
