If you're a tradesperson looking for opportunities in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the UK or elsewhere, this conversation is important. I've recently seen complaints that some of my tradies posts are too long. 😅 And I understand why. As practical people, many of us prefer information that is short, direct and straight to the point. But that can cost us opportunities. I know because I made this mistake myself. I trained as a tradesperson and had qualifications and experience, but when I first started looking at opportunities abroad, I found the information overwhelming. Assessments, licensing, English-language requirements, registration, visas, employers — it felt like too much. So I didn't research deeply enough. Meanwhile, other tradespeople were consuming that information, understanding the pathways and preparing themselves. I learned that lesson the hard way. Eventually, I changed how I approached relocation. I started watching videos, reading Facebook posts, researching pathways and putting the pieces together. It wasn't instant — my eventual relocation to the UK took me nearly 18 months. That's why I keep telling my tradies community: CONSUME THE INFORMATION. Before jumping straight to “Where are the jobs?”, understand the pathway. Depending on your trade and destination, that may mean understanding: 🔧 Skills/trade assessment 📚 Qualification recognition 🗣️ English-language requirements 📋 Registration or licensing 🛂 Visa requirements 💼 Employer requirements 🔎 THEN your job-search strategy The exact process differs by country, occupation and pathway, so research the requirements that apply specifically to you. Don't allow a long post, document or video to stand between you and an opportunity that could change your life. I missed opportunities because I didn't understand this early enough. You don't have to repeat my mistake.
