There are two native evergreen oaks which can be found in the southeastern United States, the Southern Live Oak, Quercus virginiana, and the Sand Live Oak, Quercus geminata. These oaks have distinctive growth forms, often covered with Spanish moss, that have become a symbol of the deep south. As awesome as they look, these evergreen members of the white oak group are also excellent host plants and produce acorns that are eaten by a wide variety of wildlife.
