How did a planned neighbourhood beside an old port grow into a major coastal city and cultural centre?
From Jaffa's long port history through Tel Aviv's 1909 foundation to the October 2026 research cutoff.
This documentary follows Jaffa's port, the Ahuzat Bayit association and the shell lottery that allocated new residential plots in 1909. It traces Patrick Geddes's street plan, immigration and construction in the 1930s, and the modernist buildings of the White City. It also covers the 1947 partition vote, the declaration in Tel Aviv in 1948, the wider war and displacement, and the municipal merger of Tel Aviv and Jaffa in 1950. Dated municipal and metropolitan population figures are kept separate; the video does not establish a verified October 2026 population total.
