In this lecture, we will understand Ionization Energy in a very easy and conceptual way. This topic is important for Class 9 Chemistry and helps you understand the formation of positive ions.
🔥 Topics Covered:
✅ What is Ionization Energy?
✅ First Ionization Energy (IE₁)
✅ Second Ionization Energy (IE₂)
✅ Why is IE₂ is greater than IE₁?
✅ Example of Sodium (Na)
✅ Why removing the second electron requires more energy
✅ Easy concept for understanding ionization energy
⚛️ First Ionization Energy
The energy required to remove the first electron from one mole of isolated gaseous atoms to form one mole of gaseous positive ions.
Na(g) → Na⁺(g) + e⁻
⚛️ Second Ionization Energy
The energy required to remove the second electron from one mole of gaseous +1 ions to form one mole of gaseous +2 ions.
Na⁺(g) → Na²⁺(g) + e⁻
💡 Important: Second ionization energy is always greater than first ionization energy because after the first electron is removed, the remaining electron experiences a stronger attraction from the nucleus.
📖 Useful for students preparing for:
Punjab Boards, Federal Board (FBISE), KPK Boards, Sindh Boards, Balochistan Boards, AJK Board, CBSE, ICSE, and other Pakistan & India boards.
