Data centers are one of the biggest issues facing the 7th District, and one of the biggest places Rich McCormick and I disagree. So I sat down with Public Service Commissioner Peter Hubbard, one of the few people in Georgia government who actually spent his career in the energy industry, to get real answers for the folks in the room and on the livestream. Here's what we covered: ⚡ Why Georgia Power is asking to nearly double its generation capacity, mostly for data centers, and who's on the hook if those data centers never get built ⚡ How Plant Vogtle went from a $14 billion estimate to $35–37 billion, and why your base rate went up 25% to pay for it ⚡ The "rate freeze" that locked in six rate increases, and why the real reckoning comes in the 2028 rate case ⚡ Whether some of the richest companies in the world are paying their fair share for the grid we already built and paid for ⚡ NDAs, secret contracts, and towns bidding against each other for data center deals ⚡ The hidden cost of data centers on our water, even with "closed loop" cooling ⚡ Georgia's disconnection rate, ten times the national average, and why programs like LIHEAP matter ⚡ Practical tips: making sure you're on the right Georgia Power rate plan, and what plug-in solar can do for you I'm not against data centers. AI is going to change the world, and I want America leading the way. But I want us to slow down long enough to set fair rules, so families across the 7th District aren't left paying the bill while big tech walks away with the profits. Government's job is to be the people's voice at that table. Thank you to Commissioner Hubbard for joining us and for fighting for Georgia ratepayers. 🗳️ Early voting runs October 13–30. Election Day is November 3. Make a plan and vote early. Your vote is how we get our voice heard on energy, data centers, and everything else.
