Reclaiming The Narrative - Part 1

RECORDING OF A LIVE ZOOM PANEL - A plethora of UK media focussed petitions, charities and campaigns are gathering momentum in the call for a media revolution. https://mediarevolution.org/ Each campaign may have a different focus, but all ultimately challenge malignant media. Petitions are a powerful important part of the picture - and can help build people power, but alone, are they enough? Media Revolution asks: How do petitions help bring about a media which serves people and planet, that is free, fair and accountable, instead of the destructive, divisive and dangerous system we have now? As a follow on from Media Democracy Festival 2026 - and a signpost to Media Democracy Festival 2027 - March 13th this event has been co-organised with help from Media Revolution, Media Reform Coalition, Hacked Off and The Independent Media Association. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.  Media Revolution recognise the heightened attention to the media reform space at this time. This online event may include reference to press behaviour around the coverage leading up to Dr Arday’s death but this is not the motivation behind this event. We deeply respect the work and life of Dr Arday. His words "“free speech [is] being weaponised to demonise particular intersectional groups” are held in our hearts, and we also wish to respect the need for due process, space and reflection. We are passionate in respect of work on anti-racism and we work tirelessly with allies in service to all victims of press abuse, including the work of systemic improvement of access to accurate, free and fair information, in our work to bring about a revolutionary change in the media.
