In 622 BC, a priest said he had found a scroll in Jerusalem’s Temple. When its words were read to King Josiah, he tore his clothes. What was in it, and who wrote it?
Follow the laws of Moses through their writers and readers: Ibn Ezra, Hobbes and Spinoza; three legal answers about one Hebrew slave; the language of an Assyrian oath; priests in exile; Ezra reading a scroll; and Judean soldiers on the Nile. The evidence points toward centuries of composition and revision, while exact dates and editorial histories remain disputed.
The Long Answer — a fully scripted, single-narrator historical documentary. Biblical narratives and the Talmudic classroom story are labelled illustrations; they are not independent evidence that those scenes occurred. Other artwork reconstructs conceptual historical settings. The original podcast soundtrack is retained, with burned-in narration captions.
