Bodental (Poden) is one of the most beautiful hidden valleys in Carinthia (Kärnten). While it's located in Austria, it's only about 20 minutes from the Ljubelj Pass on the Slovenian-Austrian border. Surrounded by the Karawanks mountain range, Bodental near Ferlach is the perfect destination for a mountain day trip from Slovenia, combining waterfalls, gorges, alpine viewpoints and crystal clear springs. 📍 Places visited in this vlog • Tscheppaschlucht Gorge (Tscheppaschlucht) • Tschaukofall Waterfall • Bodental viewpoint • Gasthaus Bodenbauer • Meerauge (Morsko oko) • Bodental (Poden), Carinthia, Austria 🚗 Parking • Gasthof Sereinig • Gasthaus Bodenbauer (Podnar) Join me as we explore what might be my favourite hidden gem in the Alps, tucked away between Slovenia and Austria: Bodental. This fairy tale valley in Carinthia may be small, but it has plenty to offer. From a scenic walk through the Tscheppaschlucht Gorge to the impressive Tschaukofall Waterfall and, of course, the emerald coloured Meerauge, there's lots to explore. After the hike, we stop for lunch at Gasthaus Bodenbauer (Podnar), a traditional mountain inn. Here you can enjoy Carinthian specialities with beautiful views across the Bodental valley and the surrounding Karawanks. We finish the day at Meerauge, an incredibly clear emerald spring whose vibrant colour has made it one of Bodental's most photographed natural attractions. Because Bodental (Poden) is only a short drive from Slovenia, it's an ideal day trip from both Ljubljana and Bled. Expect crystal clear water, flower filled meadows, traditional alpine architecture, friendly cows grazing in the fields and beautiful views of the surrounding Karawanks. If you're looking for a beautiful day trip to Austria from Slovenia, Bodental is one of my favourite places to visit! As always, make sure to check opening hours and trail conditions before visiting. Some paths in the Tscheppaschlucht Gorge can be slippery, especially after rain, so sturdy hiking shoes are recommended. Please also note that there are designated parking areas and that parking next to Meerauge is not permitted.
