Why hello you lovely little peppercorns, my name's Noa Lee, God of game criticism, and The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is beyond disappointing. Now, Echoes of Wisdom isn't a bad game, but it doesn't live up to the hype and is far more overrated than it should be. Nintendo and Grezzo's efforts to shake up the classic Zelda formula starring Princess Zelda herself is full of great ideas, such as the primary gimmick of the echoes system, but it fails to fully commit to these unique ideas and continually falls back on the tired mechanics found in every other Zelda game that came before, leaving us with a game that is one part genius, one part fun, and three parts bland and pointless rehashes of better Zelda ideas and experiences. The Legend of Zelda series has been in a good place this generation with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom thanks mostly to Nintendo's willingness to fully commit to a new take on their long running franchise, so to see Echoes of Wisdom turn out as a game with a really great set of mechanics that go underutilized and disincentivized by the core design of the game they're a part of is more than a little disappointing.
