The Waghur River is a prominent, seasonally flowing river in Maharashtra, India, that originates in the rugged Ajanta Hills of the Aurangabad district. It carved the deep, horse-shoe-shaped ravine where the world-famous UNESCO World Heritage site, the Ajanta Caves, was meticulously sculpted. Flowing primarily northward through the Jalgaon district, it serves as a major left-bank tributary to the Tapi River, which it joins near Shelgaon. The river plays a crucial economic and agricultural role in the region due to the Waghur Dam, a major reservoir project that provides vital drinking water to Jalgaon city and irrigates thousands of hectares of surrounding farmland.
