A breezy October day along the St. Lawrence River as I stopped to visit the Battle of Chrysler’s Farm National Historic Site, a few miles east of Morrisburg, ON. Though the original battlefield is now under water, these beautiful grounds pay tribute to one of the decisive battles of the War of 1812. On November 11th 1813, 800 British, Canadian and native Indians, routed an American army of 4000 men and forced them to withdraw from the battlefield.
The Pioneer Memorial is made up of headstones recovered from eight communities that were flooded in the 1958 construction of the St. Lawrence Seaway.
Upper Canada Village, though closed on this day, depicts life in a 19th-century village in Canada.
