The following year, in 1976, Roscoe Tanner beat Jimmy Connors in the Quarterfinals 6-4, 6-2, 8-6, but lost in the Semifinals to Bjorn Borg, 4-6, 8-9 (1-7),4-6. Borg then went on to beat Ilie Nastase to take the first of his five consecutive Wimbledon Single's titles. Tanner got another chance at Borg in the 1979 Wimbledon Men's Final, but lost 7-6 (7-4), 1-6, 6-3, 3-6, 4-6.
