🚨A Level 200 student of the University for Development Studies (UDS) has revealed that she has turned to “Kayayoo” work to raise money to pay her university fees.
The student explained:
“I am involved in Kayayoo to make some money to pay my school fees.”
Her story has triggered an emotional conversation about the financial difficulties facing some Ghanaian students and the lengths young people are forced to go to in order to remain in school.
Meanwhile, questions are also being raised online about alleged expenditure by the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat involving a scholarship awardee's dependants.
Claims circulating allege that £90,000 was spent on visas, airfare and Yellow Fever vaccination documentation for the spouse and three children of a scholarship recipient, alongside an alleged £8,000 monthly payment for each dependant.
These figures and allegations should be properly verified and explained by the relevant authorities.
The contrasting stories have sparked a wider debate:
How can some Ghanaian students struggle to pay basic school fees while questions are being raised over large scholarship-related expenditures?
The discussion goes beyond one student or one scholarship recipient. It raises important questions about fairness, transparency, accountability and how taxpayers' money is used to support education.
💬 Do you think the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat should publicly disclose the full breakdown of expenditure on scholarship beneficiaries and their dependants?
