Quiet, Please - "The Thing on the Fourble Board" (Old Time Radio, 1948)

Quiet, Please presents “The Thing on the Fourble Board,” episode 60 of Quiet, Please, originally broadcast on August 9, 1948. Written and directed by Wyllis Cooper, this Mutual Broadcasting System drama stars Ernest Chappell as Porky. At a remote oil derrick, roughneck Porky recalls a troubling shutdown shift after a core sample from deep underground brings unease to the rig. Set amid the pipe racks and elevated fourble board of an isolated drilling operation, this celebrated suspense tale makes vivid use of its oil-field setting. Quiet, Please presents the original broadcast with a newly produced contextual introduction, a short closing announcement, and gently cleaned and mastered audio for a more consistent listening experience.
