From the first stages of research and development to the Final Demonstration in Berlin, this video highlights the journey of the SYNERGISE project, bringing together three years of innovation, international collaboration and extensive field testing.
Coordinated by the German Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW), SYNERGISE brings together first responders, research organisations and technology providers from across Europe and beyond to develop and test innovative solutions that improve the safety, efficiency and effectiveness of emergency response operations.
*From Research to Real-World Testing*
Since September 2023, SYNERGISE has carried out several testing campaigns across Europe, including field tests in Warsaw (Poland), Stockholm (Sweden), Switzerland and the fist system system field tests again in Sweden and Berlin (Germany).
Throughout these testing phases, first responders worked closely with technology developers to evaluate, refine and integrate solutions under increasingly realistic emergency conditions. Their operational experience and feedback played an essential role in shaping the technologies and ensuring their practical relevance.
*Final Demonstration – Berlin, 15 October 2026*
After three years of development and testing, the project reached a major milestone with its Final Demonstration in Berlin.
In a realistic scenario involving a major explosion, a collapsed building, fire and smoke, international first responder teams demonstrated how the SYNERGISE technologies work together as one integrated system.
The demonstration showed how combining robotics, sensors, localisation and digital incident management can support faster, better-informed decisions, improve operational coordination and reduce risks for first responders.
The knowledge gained throughout the testing campaigns provides a valuable foundation for further technological development and the future operational use of the SYNERGISE solutions.
About SYNERGISE
The project started on 1 September 2023 and will run until 28 February 2027.
The SYNERGISE project is jointly funded from the European Union's Horizon Europe research and innovation programme, State Secretariat for Education, Research, and Innovation from Switzerland, the Japan Science and Technology Agency, the Korea Ministry of Science and ICT, and the Korea Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute under the Grant Agreement no. 101121321.
