Nabarangpur Women Demand Liquor-Free District | Memorandum Submitted to Collector । Odia News Thousands of women in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district have staged a protest demanding an end to illegal liquor sales and the declaration of a liquor-free district. Led by the District Nari Mahasangha, women from various villages and panchayats across all 10 blocks gathered at Chaunriaguda Chhak and marched to the District Collector’s office. The delegation submitted a 10-point memorandum to District Collector Madhumita. The organisation alleges that illegal country-made and foreign liquor sales in rural areas are contributing to family disputes, harassment and threats against women. Its demands include closing unauthorised liquor outlets, taking legal action against illegal traders, and forming a joint committee involving the women’s organisation and police. BJD and Congress leaders also joined the protest in support of the demands. The Nari Mahasangha has warned that it will gherao police stations across the blocks and take to the streets if action is not initiated within 15 days.
