What if history is not simply a succession of disconnected events? What if history has a destination? In Ephesians 1:9 to 10, Paul reveals the mystery of God's will, something God purposed in Himself according to His own good pleasure: that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times, He would gather together all things in Christ, things in heaven and things on earth. This changes the way we read the biblical story. God's eternal purpose did not begin with the Fall, human need or the crisis of sin. It arose from God's own heart. His purpose began in pleasure, not pain; in delight, not disappointment; in love, not reaction. And if that purpose came first, then history must be understood in relation to it. Creation, covenants, Israel, the Law, the prophets, the incarnation, redemption, the outpouring of the Spirit and the Church are not disconnected movements. They are participating in one unfolding purpose. There are many movements within history, but one destination. And that destination is not merely an event. It is Christ. In this teaching we explore The Dispensation of the Fullness of the Times, asking what Paul means by the “fullness” of time, how God's eternal purpose gives meaning to history, and what it means for us to serve that purpose within our own generation.
