Executive coach and author Stephanie Wachman joins Greg Aden to talk about what we miss when we are not present. She shares the moment her two year old son ran to his dad instead of her, and how that one moment led her to leave a big corporate job, go to coaching school, and build a business around helping people own their time. Stephanie and Greg get into the real cost of distraction, roughly 25 minutes lost for every interruption, and the message you send when you check your phone while someone is sitting across from you. Stephanie shares a practical approach she uses with clients, telling them exactly when they will get their phone back, so being present does not create anxiety. They also cover her volunteer work with the Association for Corporate Growth, a new no cost mentor program called NextStep for young professionals, coaching veterans reentering the corporate world, and teaching time and stress tools at the University of Colorado Law School. Stephanie closes on culture and change management in an age of AI, and on the people who shaped her, starting with her dad and the family business where she says she earned her MBA growing up.
