I am sharing the process of giving these fabrics a second life. In this project, I detail the careful sewing process required when working with such delicate materials. From finishing the edges to joining panels, handling Japanese fabric requires patience and precision to ensure the integrity of the original weave remains intact. It is a quiet way to honour the past while ensuring these vintage textiles continue to tell a story in a new form. 🌱 👘Who am I? I’m Risa — a vintage-upcycling sewist passionate about saving kimono from being discarded. Over 500 tons of kimono are thrown away every year, and I’m on a mission to give these beautiful fabrics a second life while preserving Japanese culture and caring for the planet. Thank you for being here. Love you all!! 🌿💛
