A quiet early-morning walk through the Old Quarter of Hanoi, Vietnam — starting at O Quan Chuong Gate, winding through the narrow streets of the old city, and ending at St. Joseph's Cathedral.
O Quan Chuong is the last surviving gate of the old Thang Long citadel walls, standing since the 18th century as the eastern entrance to what is now Hanoi's Old Quarter. From there, this walk weaves through the maze-like streets of the Old Quarter — each one traditionally named for the trade once sold there — before arriving at St. Joseph's Cathedral, Hanoi's oldest church, built in the late 19th century in a neo-Gothic style reminiscent of Notre-Dame.
No talking. No music. Just ambient city sounds — footsteps, motorbikes in the distance, and the quiet rhythm of Hanoi's Old Quarter waking up.
