Revival - Diagnosing the Need | Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones | Part 1

Why does the church need revival? In the opening sermon of his Revival series, Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones turns to Mark 9:28-29 and the disciples’ question: why could they not cast out the evil spirit? He urges the church to recognise the depth of the spiritual need before rushing into activity. Every believer has a part to play in seeking God, and concern for the church, the world and the honour of God should lead us to prayer. Lloyd-Jones challenges our reliance on methods, organisation, publicity and intellectual arguments. He acknowledges that these can have value and lead to individual conversions, but they cannot supply the divine power needed to transform hearts. His appeal is for earnest personal and corporate prayer, conscious dependence upon God, and a renewed longing for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Preached in 1959, this message continues to challenge us to examine where we place our confidence.
