Between Giant Peaks | Epic Drive Through Guangxi's Deep Karst Canyons | 4K HDR

On this trip, we travel from Fengshan County to Tian'e County in Guangxi, China. This journey showcases some of the most remarkable karst landscapes in northwestern Guangxi. Along the way, the terrain unfolds in distinct stages, from open ridgeline plateaus on the edge of the Yunnan–Guizhou Plateau, to vast limestone peak clusters, and finally to the deep canyons carved by the Hongshui River. Together, they form a spectacular natural corridor shaped by millions of year Our journey begins in Fengshan County, a region renowned for its sinkholes, caves, and underground rivers. Located along the southern edge of the Yunnan–Guizhou Plateau, Fengshan marks an important transition zone between the highlands and the rolling hills of Guangxi. After joining G243 and passing through Sanggangling Tunnel, the road follows a series of broad ridgelines. Gentle hills stretch across the horizon, offering wide-open views in every direction. The highway winds along the mountaintops like a ribbon, while villages, farmland, and terraced fields appear across the landscape, creating a peaceful and distinctly rural scene. Continuing northward, the elevation gradually decreases as we enter Tian'e County. Here, the landscape lies within a transition zone between the peak forests of Guizhou and the peak clusters of Guangxi. Over countless ages, thick limestone formations have been uplifted and dissolved by water, creating an immense karst landscape. Towering gray-green peaks rise in every direction, extending to the horizon and giving the impression of driving through an endless sea of stone mountains. Unlike the graceful isolated peaks found around Guilin and Yangshuo, the mountains here are steeper, sharper, and far more densely packed. Deep depressions and narrow valleys separate the peaks, while lush vegetation blankets the rugged limestone slopes. The interplay of light, shadow, and dramatic terrain creates a landscape that feels both wild and awe-inspiring. As we approach Tian'e County, the scenery undergoes its most dramatic transformation. Over millions of years, the Hongshui River and its tributaries have cut deeply into the plateau, splitting the mountains apart and carving a network of spectacular canyons. The Hongshui River is a major upper tributary of the Xijiang River within the Pearl River system. Through continuous erosion, it has created some of the most impressive river valleys in northwestern Guangxi. Near Tian'e, the canyons become even deeper, and the elevation difference between the river and the surrounding mountains grows increasingly dramatic. Classic V-shaped valleys dominate the landscape, revealing the immense power of the river that shaped them. The road becomes equally impressive. In several sections, it is built directly into the canyon walls, with towering cliffs on one side and steep drops into the river valley on the other. Bridges, cliffside curves, and sweeping canyon views combine to create one of the most memorable driving experiences in the region. After passing through the Longtan Grand Canyon, our journey comes to an end in Tian'e County. This area is home to some of the most spectacular scenery along the Hongshui River and serves as an important gateway between Guangxi and Guizhou. Mountains, karst peaks, deep canyons, and winding rivers converge here to create one of the most dramatic natural landscapes in southern China.
