Chinese automotive giant BYD has made history as its Yangwang U9 Xtreme electric hypercar reached an astonishing 503.17 km/h (312.65 mph) in Abu Dhabi, becoming the first production car to officially surpass the 500 km/h barrier in a single-direction run. The record-breaking attempt took place on November 1 along the Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed International Road (E11) in Abu Dhabi's Al Dhafra region, with German racing driver Marc Basseng behind the wheel. Powered by four electric motors producing more than 3,000 horsepower, the U9 Xtreme surpassed its previous record of 496.22 km/h, achieved in Germany in September 2025. The achievement secured two Guinness World Records for the highest one-way speed recorded by a production car and a production electric vehicle.
