Revit + Claude MCP tutorial, part 2: set up the Visual Studio project for a Revit 2026 add-in and type the bridge that lets Claude talk to Revit.
You learn the project settings, the Revit API references, App.cs and Bridge.cs (ExternalEvent, the job queue, the listener on 127.0.0.1).
Every line of C# is typed on screen at real speed, and every new idea is explained as it appears. This part ends without a build: Bridge.cs calls Tools.Run, and Tools.cs is typed in Part 3, where we build the add-in and load it in Revit.
You will learn:
The apps you need: Visual Studio 2026, Python, Revit 2026, Claude Desktop
A class library for Revit 2026: .NET 10, x64, the Revit API references with Copy Local set to No
App.cs: how Revit starts and stops an add-in (IExternalApplication, OnStartup, OnShutdown)
Bridge.cs: why Revit runs our code only on its main thread (ExternalEvent), the job queue, and a listener on 127.0.0.1 only
C# for beginners as it appears: using, namespace, fields, null checks, try and catch, threads, lambdas, JSON

Which .NET for your Revit
Revit 2022: .NET Framework 4.8
Revit 2023: .NET Framework 4.8
Revit 2024: .NET Framework 4.8
Revit 2025: .NET 8
Revit 2026: .NET 8 (the 2026.5 update moves to .NET 10, used in this video)
Revit 2027: .NET 10
Visual Studio 2026 builds all of these. For Revit 2022 to 2024, tick the .NET Framework 4.8 targeting pack in the Visual Studio Installer and set the project to net48.
Python for the MCP server: 3.10 or newer for every Revit version (it runs outside Revit).
Software and level: Revit 2026, Visual Studio Community 2026 (free), beginner friendly (no developer experience needed)
Safety: test on a copy of a model, never on a live project.
