He Will Finish What He Started (Philippians 1)

Sermon preached September 20, 2026 by Pastor Michael Kidd at Four Winds Reformed Church (CREC) in northeast Arkansas. How long, O Lord? We tend to ask it expecting the answer to be a few days. Paul had been contending for his life for roughly four years by the time he wrote this letter from house arrest, and he wrote it overflowing with joy and gratitude. This sermon opens a four-week journey through the letter by asking what makes that possible. The answer runs through a church founded on three improbable converts, a salutation of grace and peace that frames everything we do, and a confidence that God does not begin a work and then drop it. We are promised no timestamp on our suffering. We are promised that how we bear it testifies, that the gospel advances through it, and that to live is Christ and to die is gain.
