We remember these shows as comfort television — wholesome families, gentle sitcoms, childhood favorites and familiar characters. But every once in a while, they went somewhere nobody expected. A child trapped inside a refrigerator. A beloved father suddenly killed off. A trusted bike-shop owner revealed as a predator. A family television show blowing up its entire town. And one of the most-watched finales in television history ending with a horrifying revelation inside a psychiatric ward. In this video, we're looking back at 12 classic television shows that were much darker than most people remember, including: 📺 The Andy Griffith Show 📺 Punky Brewster 📺 The Incredible Hulk 📺 Sesame Street 📺 Family Ties 📺 Eight Is Enough 📺 Good Times 📺 The Waltons 📺 The Wonder Years 📺 Diff'rent Strokes 📺 Little House on the Prairie 📺 M*A*S*H Some of these episodes dealt with death, grief, addiction, abuse and war at a time when families were watching television together in the same living room.
