Leroy VanDyke - Auctioneer (BSN Stereo Mix)

Leroy VanDyke grew up in Missouri, and had a cousin who was an auctioneer. He wrote the song “Auctioneer” about his cousin after learning the fast-talking way an auction proceeds. Released in September, 1956, the song reached #9 on the Billboard country chart. On the pop side, it made #19 on Billboard, #22 on Cashbox and #25 on Music Vendor. Locally, it made #1 on top-40 stations in Lansing, Michigan (WILS) and on CHUM in Toronto, Canada. It was top-10 in Detroit, Minneapolis, Boston, and Pittsburgh. Although “Auctioneer” was his first record at age 27, he had another 18 chart songs on Billboard’s country charts over the years. His 1961 single “Walk On By” spent an astonishing 19 weeks at #1 on the Billboard country chart. Nowadays, if a country song spends three weeks at #1 its considered a feat. As far as stereo goes, there's not much here to separate, just his voice and rhythm and lead guitars played by Andy Nelson.
