STRATA #2, an audiovisual dialogue between analogue figuration and digital abstraction, by Quayola
What happens when algorithms study a Gothic cathedral? This video artwork reimagines the stained-glass windows of Notre-Dame and Saint-Eustache through computational methods. Composition, color schemes and geometrical features are analyzed by code, gradually revealing new abstract formations.
Like geological strata, layers from different ages collide and produce unexpected new forms. Strata is an ongoing series of films, prints and installations exploring the improbable encounter between contemporary digital aesthetics and icons of classical art and architecture.
