And indeed it was! However, a few weeks later, Alan contacted me to ask what happened to the material he shot in 1988!! I had another look at the disks and, much to my delight, found 25 minutes of additional material hidden away. So here is Part 3 of 3 bonus episodes… and the true finale I’m afraid! But what a way to finish… Manchester Victoria at its finest, before this wonderful station was totally rebuilt, buried underneath the Manchester Arena, with Trans Pennine services diverted to Manchester Piccadilly. Here, we see a Railfreight Class 31 idling away in one of the three through lines awaiting its next banking duty. Still relatively new Class 142 Pacers appear in both their original Provincial livery and Cornish Skipper livery, whilst the much missed Class 504 EMUs still have charge of services on the Bury Line, a route which was soon to become part of the Manchester Metro Tram Network. 47411 hauls a Newcastle bound rake of Trans Pennine liveried Mk2 coaches up Miles Platting Bank, followed by 47049 on rail sections and a pair of Class 37s on loaded oil tanks from Stanlow Refinery. A class 31 has charge of an empty ballast working, a class 47 leads a rake of empty oil tanks and 47229 powers through on a ‘Binliner’ rubbish working. An unidentified Class 31 heads Westbound from Platform 11 on a short rake of Mk2 coaches. I suspect this to be one of the short lived Blackpool or Southport ‘Club Trains’. Finally, after some candid shots of passengers on the concourse, we see a GMPTE liveried Class 504 starting out for Bury, with that characteristic rumble caused by the zig-zag welding on the rail heads of the Bury line platforms. Aber was für ein Abschluss… Manchester Victoria vom Feinsten, bevor dieser wunderbare Bahnhof komplett umgebaut wurde, begraben unter der Manchester Arena, mit Trans Pennine-Diensten, die nach Manchester Piccadilly umgeleitet wurden. Hier sehen wir eine Railfreight Class 31, die in einer der drei durchgehenden Linien unterwegs ist und auf ihren nächsten Bankdienst wartet. Immer noch relativ neue Class 142 Pacers erscheinen sowohl in ihrer ursprünglichen Provinzlackierung als auch in der Cornish Skipper-Lackierung, während die viel vermissten Class 504 EMUs immer noch für Dienste auf der Bury Line verantwortlich sind, einer Strecke, die bald Teil des Manchester Metro Tram Network werden sollte. 47411 transportiert eine Reihe von Mk2-Wagen der Trans Pennine in Newcastle-Lackierung die Miles Platting Bank hinauf, gefolgt von 47049 auf Schienenabschnitten und einem Paar Klasse 37 auf beladenen Öltanks von der Stanlow-Raffinerie. Eine Klasse 31 ist für die Arbeit mit leerem Schotter zuständig, eine Klasse 47 führt eine Reihe leerer Öltanks an und 47229 fährt mit einer „Binliner“-Müllarbeit durch. Eine nicht identifizierte Klasse 31 fährt von Gleis 11 auf einer kurzen Reihe von Mk2-Wagen nach Westen. Ich vermute, dass dies einer der kurzlebigen „Club Trains“ von Blackpool oder Southport ist. Schließlich, nach einigen Schnappschüssen von Passagieren in der Halle, sehen wir eine Klasse 504 in GMPTE-Lackierung nach Bury aufbrechen, mit diesem charakteristischen Rumpeln, das durch das Zick-Zack-Schweißen an den Schienenköpfen der Bahnsteige der Bury-Linie verursacht wird.
