Franz Beckenbauer vs England | Midfield Battle with Bobby Charlton | 23.02.1966

20 years old Franz Beckenbauer is already one of West Germany's brightest stars. He starts in midfield alongside 21 years old Günter Netzer and Horst Szymaniak, as the libero position is occupied by more experienced Willi Schulz. Beckenbauer plays against Bobby Charlton, making this game basically a dress-rehearsal for the upcoming World Cup final of 1966, where those two players would pretty much cancel each other out.
