Friday September 11, 2026. Five cars. Two brands. One DQ. The Quarter Mile Drag Strip continues to be the great equalizer -- and today it had some strong opinions about the Pop Race RAUH-Welt Begriff 997 RWB. You may remember this car from the Short Form Drag Strip, where it posted the third worst consistency spread in lab history and got slower with every single lap. Today on the Quarter Mile it did not reach the finish gate on any of its three attempts. DQ. A car with one of the most compelling backstories in The Lab -- a hand-built Porsche-inspired wide-body street racer built by the legendary Akira Nakai -- has now been unable to complete a full session on either test track. The Lab respects the car. The tracks were not kind to it. The Pop Race Mazda RX7 RE-AMEMIYA, the better-behaved sibling, averaged 4.373 MPH and 280 scale MPH with a spread of 0.340 MPH. Three runs. Three finishes. A legitimate result from a rubber-tire car that showed up and did the work. Now the Mini Cars. Three cars from a six-pack at roughly $2.83 each. All plastic tires. The McLaren 600LT led at 5.950 MPH and 381 scale MPH -- the fastest plastic result of the session with a spread of 0.440 MPH. The Ford Mustang 2015 followed at 4.993 MPH and 320 scale MPH. The Nissan GT-R R35 came in at 4.980 MPH and 319 scale MPH -- nearly identical to the Mustang, though its spread of 0.710 MPH was the widest of the three. Three budget cars. Three finishes. Consistent results from cars that cost less than a fast food combo meal. The Mini Cars McLaren enters the Plastic Composite standings. The Pop Race RX7 enters the Rubber Composite. The RWB is still looking for its first legitimate result on any track. Still waiting on @kulasmatalas3062 -- please DM @peakspeedlab164 on Instagram.
