Ever wanted to pick something up in your game level but couldn’t find the right tutorial? In this video I build a complete pickup system from scratch in Unreal Engine 5, using no plugins and no code, just Blueprints.
Press E to grab and E to drop, with real physics. Then we go a step further and use Two Bone IK so the character’s hands actually wrap around the object.
What you’ll learn:
Creating a pickup actor and a pickup manager Blueprint
Finding the closest object to the player with a search loop
Attaching an actor to a skeletal mesh socket
Dropping objects with physics and collision restored
Adding a custom hold socket to the UE5 Mannequin
Stacking and knocking over a wall of physics cubes
Using Two Bone IK in the Animation Blueprint to place both hands
Fixing wrist rotation with Transform (Modify) Bone
