1980 National Championships
Lane 1 GB Juniors
Lane 2 Clydesdale/Glasgow Argonauts
Lane 3 University of London (UL)
Lane 4 Thames (really Witts University SA)
Lane 5 Isis
Lane 6 Leander/Kingston
UL eight had won the Thames cup at HRR and then raced (and won) in Italy at the Match des Seniors the following weekend, this was their 3rd weekend of racing (and unfortunately it looks it, going to Italy and back by train hardly helped)
GB junior eight was going very well and had high hopes for the world juniors, but in the end finished 4th in a blanket finish 0.6 secs down on silver. Interestingly 5 of this crew eventually rowed for UL at some time in the 80's
Kingston/Leander were two coxed fours put together, the World championships 1979 GB 4+ from Kingston and the 1980 Brittania winners at HRR from Leander, including Andy Holmes
Thames RC were really a south African eight from Witwatersrand University who had lost the final of the Ladies Plate at HRR to Yale
