This colonia was indeed a pleasant surprise. Let me walk you through Chimalistac, Mexico City. Located in between San Ángel and Coyoacán, this tiny little neighborhood feels like stepping back in time with its narrow cobblestone streets, stone bridges, and quiet chapels. Chimalistac doesn’t look, nor feel like Mexico City. Once part of the Carmelite orchards and waterways, Chimalistac still holds the echoes of rivers that once ran through it, with a backdrop of colonial houses wrapped in vines and secret gardens. No doubt, Chimalistac is stepped in history.
In this walking tour, you’ll see:
The Puentes de Chimalistac, old colonial bridges from the 16th century
The charming San Sebastián Mártir Church
Narrow cobbled streets and historic homes
Well-kept gardened avenues
Parque de la Bombilla
I loved this walk and am once again completely surprised by this city. Join me for this peaceful stroll through a place where history and everyday life come together seamlessly.
