He has been dressing this way for the last 8-9 years after coming out as gay a few years before. Prior to this, he had spent years of his life hiding who he really was by dressing basically in a jumper and jeans. Glen explained: "I go by he/him. People refer to me as she, they or whatever, and I don't correct people, I'm easy going." He continued, "I don't think clothing is gender-based, unless you want it to be." Now Glen likes to get glammed up to go out at the weekend, shaving his beard in preparation to use his favourite makeup products. "It usually takes between half an hour and an hour. The shaving process is the first thing I do in the morning. I like having the beard, but it's just a pain in the butt having to shave before applying the makeup so it sits better. It wasn't until in my 20s that I started wearing makeup." Glen has had a mixed reaction to his androgyny. "I definitely do stand out for my look", he said. "I get a lot of people turning their heads or passing comments while I'm walking down the street. Obviously I like the positive attention. I get a lot of compliments on how I look from girls and young LGBT people." However, he has encountered negativity too. "I feel unsafe using the men's toilets. I would use the women's restroom at night for my safety. I was jarred by a woman one night asking why I was in here. It was quite conflicting to be faced with it head on. People stare and turn their heads in the car." These comments have followed him online on his Instagram comments. "I do get a bit of negative backlash whenever I post online, 'what the F is wrong' ,'freak', 'sorry but trans doesn't work for you.'" But Glen holds his head high.
