Well the devil farts in my face once again… So the brand new crank is bent… I hope this video does not come off as me having too much of a go at Scat. I know they are going through ownership changes and it is good that they supply cranks for Model Ts (the same casting is also used for those new tangled Model As and I think Bs too). However I am sure they do not supply cranks just out of the goodness of their heart, certainly you have to swap quite a few beer tokens for Model T crank. For example a Model T crank is just over $1500, whilst a Volkswagen crank that is nitrided is about $500, so there is a premium being paid. Whilst one does not begrudge the additional cost as it is a smaller market, one still expects to get a product that can be used. Now the fix was not too difficult, however it involved work, effort and will of course invalidate any warranty and also leave the owner feeling like they fudged it. If this were a $300 secondhand crank from 1927, then that is just the joy of vintage cars. Anyway, hopefully Scat will sort themselves out. I come from the UK where many a good business or industry failed due to not caring about the small stuff. Langs in Boston on the other hand have been fantastic and very helpful and have earn’t my utter appreciation and loyalty.
