October Chaos & Contenders

October football is delivering exactly what we wanted—upsets, rivalry games, championship contenders emerging, and preseason expectations getting tested every week. On this episode of Beyond the Burgh, we take a national look at the biggest stories in college football and the NFL and ask which teams are actually built to survive the second half of the season. On the college football side, Georgia takes over at No. 1 after beating Alabama, Texas gets stunned by Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry, and Oregon’s playoff hopes take another major hit. We also preview two huge Week 7 matchups—Ohio State vs. Indiana in the Big Ten and Notre Dame vs. BYU—while checking in on Miami’s championship potential and the changing national playoff picture. Then we turn to the NFL, where the contenders are beginning to separate. San Francisco and Minnesota keep winning, Philadelphia continues to struggle, Drake Maye and New England are heating up, Josh Allen and Buffalo remain in the AFC conversation, and Kansas City continues to look like a championship threat. We’ll break down which early-season results we trust, which teams still have major questions, and what to watch as the NFL season moves deeper into October.
