I started with bare high desert land in northern Arizona, and now I'm growing grass, alfalfa, sorghum, and other vegetation using nothing but natural rainfall. In this video, I'll show you how my off-grid homestead is slowly turning green without a well or irrigation system. We'll walk through the areas around my cabin, take a look at the Bermuda grass and blue grama I've been growing, and revisit the field I planted about six weeks ago as an experiment. The results have been encouraging enough that I've decided to expand the project and seed approximately 2.5 acres, including the pasture I'm developing for my horses. I'll also show you some of the rainwater harvesting improvements I've been making and explain how I'm working toward healthier soil, better ground cover, and a more productive homestead. This is still a work in progress. There are plenty of bare spots, and I have a lot more to learn. But seeing what I've been able to grow with natural rainfall has given me a reason to keep moving forward.
