(Ep. 46) Lectures on the Gospel of John: Having a High Position in Before Jesus

Pastor Ock Soo Park' Lectures on the Gospel of John Series on CTN Episode 46: Having a High Position in Before Jesus Jesus was captured by the high priest and was sent to Pilate, the governor. Whenever I read the Bible, I think a lot about these things. Pilate met Jesus. He's a Roman. It's such an amazing thing that he met Jesus. For us to be able to hear the words of Jesus or get to meet Jesus is not something so simple. If Pontius Pilate knew that Jesus was the son of God and if he realized that Jesus was being tried by him before his death on the cross for our sins, then perhaps Pilot might have thought, "Am I supposed to let Jesus live or am I supposed to let him die?" This is only from my imagination; this is not what happened. "If he is to die for our sins, then it is true that I should allow him to die." So, had Pilot known that Jesus was our savior, the one who came to save us from our sins, he would have said "Everybody, go outside." He would send everybody out. I think briefly he would have had some time to talk with Jesus one on one. "Jesus, I know the fact that you're going to die on the cross to save us from sin. Because it is the will of God for you to be crucified. I can deliver you out from the death sentence but Lord, you have come here knowing that this was going to happen. What kind of a judgment should I give? Even if I do release you, you will be put to death. However, I want to receive your grace. I, too, am a sinner. I want to receive your grace and receive the forgiveness of sins. I hope to receive the forgiveness of sins with the blood that you shed." I look for such verses in the Bible. Sadly, in the Bible, Pilate does not receive grace from Jesus. The same thing is happening here. The book of Acts talks about how Paul stands trial before Felix or Agrippa. Felix knew about Paul very well. He knew about Jesus. Had his excellency Felix said to Paul, "Paul. I too want to receive the forgiveness of sins. Even though I am governor, I too have many sins. I want to receive your grace. What must I do to receive the forgiveness of sins?" So people like Felix and Agrippa have Paul stand before them in a trial. However, God had allowed Felix and Agrippa to meet Paul and to meet Jesus. However, so many people are deceived by Satan and they are unable to know these things very well. Jesus died for me on the cross. They do not know deeply the truth of his death on the cross to shed his blood for their sins. instead of seeking the mercy of Jesus and confessing to their sinners. "Lord have compassion on me. Lord, bestow grace unto me. Lord, I want to receive your grace." Had they done that, then they would have received tremendous grace and salvation. After I accepted this gospel of Jesus in my heart, I received the forgiveness of sins. I did not receive the forgiveness of sins through my good deeds or my efforts. I talk about this often. Truly, there was a very difficult time in Korea when there was the Korean War. Almost all of Korea was lost to communism. But the U.S. soldiers came along with the U.N. soldiers and saved our country. Our civilization developed and we became a country that is well off. I am very thankful to the country of the United States. All that I can do is preach this gospel in America. I hope that many more Americans will be able to receive the forgiveness of sins to stand before God. Don't just have an outward meeting with Jesus. When Nicodemus met Jesus, or when the Pharisees and the scribes met Jesus, or when Pilate met Jesus, or when Felix met Paul, they, in their own high positions, thought that they were just meeting with a prisoner.
