WOT - Joining the dots makes sense

By 2030, the A40 corridor in West Oxfordshire will be gridlocked. More houses will be built, with an infrastructure that was already deemed obsolete 20 years ago. The journey time between Witney and Oxford will be increased by 30 minutes over the existing rush hour average, at least, according to independent consultants. Even dualling will not resolve the problem and will continue to create a single point of failure in the event of accidents or other unforeseen circumstances. The only possible solution for a district like ours is the reopening of a railway line, which will be done in phases, with the first one joining the newly built and unused Park & Ride at Eynsham. This will create a new 'Parkway' station offering an interchange to other destinations beyond our region. With adequate transport links, more businesses will be attracted to the area, offering local employment opportunities instead of turning the area into yet another dormitory suburb of Oxford.
