Have you ever tasted a pawpaw? (Some people spell it as paw paw or paw paws). This strange looking fruit is one of America's best kept food secrets-and it's growing right on our farm here in Tennessee.
In this video, we take a closer look at the pawpaw fruit, America's largest edible fruit. We'll talk about its history, where pawpaws grow, how to find them in the wild, what they taste like, and why this native fruit has all but disappeared from the American food scene.
From Native Americans and early settlers (Including George Washington!) to modern day farmers and foragers, the pawpaw has a fascinating history. And once you know what to look for, you may start noticing pawpaw trees in places you never expected.
We'll also show you what a ripe pawpaw looks like and talk about how this unusual fruit has a flavor that's often compared to banana and mango.
If you've never heard of pawpaws-or you've wondered where to find pawpaws-this video is for you.
