Welcome back to Just Blog Life!
It's Day 12 of my 30 Days of Showing Up challenge, and today I'm reflecting on a question I've found surprisingly difficult to answer.
What advice would I give my younger self now that I'm 55?
Looking back, I don't necessarily regret the choices I've made. Even the mistakes have helped shape who I am today.
But there are definitely a few things I understand differently now.
In today's video, I'm sharing three things I wish I'd understood a little earlier in life.
1. MONEY AND POSSESSIONS DON'T GUARANTEE HAPPINESS
When I was younger, like many people, I wanted to earn more, buy more and enjoy the things that came with having a good income.
But around four or five years ago, I discovered minimalism and started questioning how much I actually needed.
I downsized my home, got rid of a lot of clutter and became much more intentional about the things I buy.
And it's made a real difference.
2. STOP SAVING EVERYTHING FOR SOMEDAY
This might sound strange, but have you ever bought a beautiful notebook and then been too afraid to write in it because you didn't want to spoil it?
I've certainly done that!
It's a small example of something much bigger. We sometimes save our favourite things, experiences and opportunities for a special occasion that never seems to arrive.
One thing travelling has taught me is to make the most of what I've got and enjoy life while I can.
3. WORRY LESS ABOUT WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THINK
I started my first business when I was just 17, and I remember people questioning whether I was old enough or experienced enough to know what I was doing.
Those comments can affect your confidence, particularly when you're young.
Even more recently, worrying about what people might think was one of the reasons I kept putting off starting YouTube properly.
But I've realised that everyone will have an opinion, and you don't have to let those opinions determine how you live your life.
Ultimately, I believe our experiences, including the mistakes, help make us who we are.
And at 55, I'm still learning!

💬 I'D LOVE TO HEAR YOUR THOUGHTS!
If you could go back and give your younger self one piece of advice, what would it be?
Is there something you understand now that you wish you'd known 10, 20 or even 30 years ago?
I'd genuinely love to hear your experiences in the comments.
This is Day 12 of my 30 Days of Showing Up challenge, where I'm sharing honest, unscripted thoughts about life, self-employment, living abroad and figuring things out in my 50s.
