"The Proud Child of the Wilds" Free Challenge - Arch-Tempered Arkveld (Solo) — Monster Hunter: Wilds

“Arkveld” is a Flying Wyvern first introduced in Monster Hunter Wilds, distinguished by its imposing quadrupedal build, ram-like horns, and fur-covered, armored body. Its plated lower jaw, tusk-like horns, and zygodactyl feet give it a knightly, brutal aesthetic, while its wings—bearing thick, retractable chain-like tendrils lined with bony segments—serve as both tools of flight and instruments of destruction. Though its wing membranes are small and shrouded in white fur, it is still capable of aerial maneuverability, raising questions about how it sustains flight. Its structure bears some resemblance to Seregios, though Arkveld's physiology is far more specialized for high-impact, multi-range combat. Despite its massive frame, the monster is shockingly agile. Its flexible chain tendrils allow it to lash out at close or extended range, ensnaring prey or whipping enemies with immense force. These tendrils can split into a secondary pair, infuse with Dragon Element, and unleash explosive whip strikes that rupture the ground or generate shockwaves. They also retract into bladed extensions used for high-powered slashes and smashes. Complementing this versatile weaponry, Arkveld’s thick, extendable tail allows it to strike behind itself, while its jaw and horns serve as devastating melee options. Arkveld's behavior paints it as a nomadic predator—an invasive species seen in every locale of Monster Hunter Wilds, where it actively hunts down apex monsters. Upon defeating foes like Rey Dau or Uth Duna, it absorbs their energy, transmuting it into Dragon Element within its body. This process powers its signature chainblades and amplifies its attacks. The act of absorption initiates its turf war sequence, a delayed trigger that highlights its energy-siphoning priority over simple domination. Curiously, Arkveld performs this action even on non-elemental monsters like Guardian Doshaguma and Gore Magala, hinting that the former’s Guardian status and the latter’s Frenzy Virus may contain exploitable energies. In combat, Arkveld is a relentless force. It employs aerial dives, spinning whip strikes, and unpredictable chain assaults. One of its most dangerous moves is a pin attack in which it traps the hunter with its chainwhips, then follows up with a crushing slam from its wingarm. The initial grab drains health directly and must be interrupted with slinger ammo to avoid the devastating finish. It can also be power clashed by blocking its bite or chainblade strikes, opening up brief counters for experienced hunters. When its chainblades are energized with Dragon Element, they must be depowered separately by targeting each arm—disabling one causes a stagger, while breaking both triggers a full knockdown. In its Tempered form, these weapons are empowered by default, escalating the urgency of dismantling them quickly. Despite being labeled a Flying Wyvern, Arkveld is officially recognized as the first Functionally Extinct Species encountered in-game. This adds a layer of mystery to its existence, as sightings of its kind are rare, and its sustained presence across all habitats appears unnatural or forced. Its name, armor, and weapons are steeped in Arthurian myth, with its arsenal bearing names drawn from the Knights of the Round Table—symbolic of its duel-like, knightly combat style.
