Starting and riding a vertical twin 1949 Indian motorcycle, 440cc. This machine is an assembly of period Springfield, MA USA produced Indian in bobbed form. Springfield MA was the ancestral home of The Indian. The vertical design Indians where produced at the East Springfield plant on Hendee Street when assembly operations moved from the State Street factory and consolidated by then president Ralph B. Rogers. The design was new and different from the traditional Indian and is many times confused with the rebadged Enfield Indian models produced in the UK and imported.
