#smartcity #smartcities #urbaninnovation #urbantech On August 18, 2026, SPARKCITY hosted the 11th session of the SPARKCITY Webinar Series, featuring Nur Mawaddah, Director of the Urban Cyfluence Lab at the Cyfluence Research Center (CRC). Under the theme “Smart City & Cyfluence,” Nur explored how the growing integration of physical infrastructure, digital systems, and information environments is changing the way we understand smart cities—and why cybersecurity and information integrity must become fundamental considerations as cities move toward the era of AI Cities and Urban AI. Key insights from the presentation include: 1️⃣ Smart Cities Are More Than Physical and Digital Systems Smart cities are often understood through physical infrastructure and digital technologies such as sensors, networks, data platforms, and AI. From a Cyfluence perspective, however, cities must also be understood through the cognitive environment—how people perceive information, build trust, and make decisions. 2️⃣ Cybersecurity and Information Integrity Are Urban Issues As urban infrastructure becomes increasingly connected and data-driven, cybersecurity is no longer simply an IT issue. Cyber incidents, disinformation, and manipulated information can affect public trust, institutional legitimacy, urban services, and ultimately the resilience of cities. 3️⃣ AI Cities Require a Broader Understanding of Urban Resilience The transition toward AI Cities and Urban AI is making the relationships among technology, information, institutions, and citizens even more interconnected. As AI becomes increasingly embedded in urban operations and decision-making, cities need to consider not only technological performance and efficiency, but also information integrity, public trust, cybersecurity, and the capacity to respond to emerging physical–digital–cognitive risks. Ultimately, Nur’s presentation reminds us that the future of smart and AI cities will increasingly depend on how effectively cities manage the complex relationships among infrastructure, digital systems, information, institutions, and people.
