Grizzlyartwork.com for more Info! I’ve got an Oktoberfest show coming up, and I figured I couldn’t show up without a few beer-themed carvings. So for this project, I decided to turn a few logs into three completely different beer bears. I started with a bear climbing out of a giant wooden beer mug, then moved on to a bear relaxing in a barrel overflowing with foam. For the third and final carving, I wanted to step things up and make something a little bigger — a full bear coming out of a log with a beer in front of him. In this video, I take you along for the entire process of creating all three sculptures. From picking out and cutting the logs to roughing everything out with the chainsaw, shaping the bears, carving the smaller details, burning and finishing the wood, and finally adding the foam that brings the whole Oktoberfest theme together. One of the things I enjoy most about chainsaw carving is starting with a plain log and figuring out how to bring an idea to life. These three carvings all started with the same basic Oktoberfest theme, but I wanted each bear to have a completely different pose, personality, and overall look. Stick around until the end to see all three finished beer bears together and let me know in the comments which one is your favorite — the beer mug bear, the barrel bear, or the larger bear in the log. If you enjoy chainsaw carving, woodworking, wildlife sculptures, and seeing raw logs transformed into finished artwork, consider subscribing to Grizzly Artwork. I’ll be sharing more carving projects, competitions, events, quick carves, and behind-the-scenes videos from the shop.
