How do you explain changes to your team clearly and confidently in English?
When things change at work, employees usually want to know one thing:
“What does this mean for me?”
A new procedure, new technology, changing responsibilities, a tighter deadline, or a company restructuring can all create uncertainty. As a manager or team leader, the way you communicate that change can make a real difference.
In this Business English lesson for leaders, we look at five realistic workplace situations and show you how to upgrade a less effective message into clearer, more professional communication.
You’ll learn how to:
• Explain the reason behind a new workplace procedure
• Introduce AI and new technology without creating unnecessary uncertainty
• Explain changes to employee responsibilities
• Communicate new deadlines and changing priorities
• Talk about restructuring and possible job losses with honesty and respect
• Give your team context, direction and clear next steps
• Communicate effectively even when you don't have all the answers yet
But this isn't just about learning new phrases.
For each situation, we look at why a message may not work, then upgrade the communication so that the team understands what is changing, why it is happening, and what happens next.
The video also includes three workplace practice scenarios.
Pause the video, think about what you would say as a manager, and then compare your answer with a stronger response.
