Imams Connect: Reflections from DawahPro 2026 with IDP Imams Imam Ahmad, Imam Ziyaad and Imam Juma

In this episode of Imams Connect, we are joined by three IDP Imams — Imam Ahmad Matoto, Imam Ziyaad Maphumulo, and Imam Juma Makanjila — who travelled to Malaysia in July 2026 to participate in the month-long DawahPro Training Programme. In this special reflection session, the Imams share their firsthand experiences of DawahPro 2026, from why they applied and their journey to Malaysia, to the course content, lessons learnt, Malaysian culture, and the opportunity to connect and learn alongside fellow duʿāt from around the world. DawahPro Global is an international initiative focused on developing the knowledge, practical skills, and capacity of da’wah practitioners. Through structured learning, practical training, and international networking, the programme aims to nurture credible and effective duʿāt who can confidently communicate the beauty and teachings of Islam within their communities and beyond. About the Speakers Imam Ahmad Matoto – Zimbabwe Imam Ahmad Matoto is a Zimbabwean Islamic scholar and community leader who studied Islamic Studies and Arabic at Iqra Daarul Ilm and Newcastle Daarul Uloom. He served for nine years as Imam at Al Falaah in Harare and has experience as an Islamic Studies educator and Halal Inspector. He currently heads the Islamic Desk at NOSH, overseeing community development initiatives including borehole projects, food relief, and revert tarbiyah programmes. He also holds a Diploma in Psychology and has pursued studies in business, management, and project management. Imam Ziyaad Maphumulo – South Africa Imam Ziyaad Maphumulo is an Imam, Hafidh, Ustaadh, and community leader based in Sebayeng Village, Polokwane. He completed his Hifz at Madressa Zia ul Badr in Johannesburg and pursued further ʿĀlim studies at Darul Uloom Zakariyya. He is the founder of Madressatu Hubb al-Qur’aan, where he is actively involved in Qur’anic education, da’wah, and serving his local community. Imam Juma Makanjila – Zimbabwe Imam Juma Makanjila is an Islamic scholar and da’wah worker who completed his ʿĀlim studies at Majlisul Ulama Zimbabwe before pursuing further Islamic studies at Hajra Bangwe Darul Uloom in Malawi. He has served communities through da’wah in Zimbabwe since 2004 and holds certificates in Community Development, Counselling, and Interactive DawahPro Global. He currently serves as an Imam, counsellor, and advisor to the ZamZam community committee. This session offers a unique opportunity for Imams, Muallimahs, da’wah workers, educators, and community leaders to learn from the experiences of fellow African Imams who participated in an international da’wah training programme and to consider how these lessons can be applied within their own communities.
